students, so they will not have to go through what I have gone through, academically speaking.
Ptolemaicism is the philosophical doctrine that states that most scientific ideas are Ptolemaic in nature. By "Ptolemaic," I mean that most scientific ideas are false, like Ptolemy's astronomy. A lot of science is based on mathematical metaphors that are Ptolemaic in nature. For instance, quantum mechanics and relativity theory are based on mathematical metaphors that are Ptolemaic in nature, because they are useful and give accurate results, but they are false like Ptolemy's astronomy.
For the sake of technological progress, I believe that Ptolemaicism is the only way to go, because Ptolemaic ideas give useful results, and they can be very accurate. However, if one wants to be philosophical about nature, one should be skeptical about scientific Ideas, because most of them are based on mathematical metaphors that are useful but are false. The more mathematical a discipline becomes, the more metaphorical it becomes. As I said before, mathematical metaphors can be useful and can give highly accurate results, but, in most cases, they are based on falsehoods like Ptolemy's astronomy. Most scientists are Ptolemaicists, whether they realize they are or not.
I believe that it is only through philosophy that Ptolemaic ideas can be corrected, because scientists merely replace Ptolemaic ideas with more accurate Ptolemaic ideas. I encourage
