Everything Is Impossible
By: Keith Ferreira

Everything Is Impossible

Zeno of Elea proved that motion is impossible with his paradoxes, and I will attempt in this article to prove that everything is impossible. If existence is possible, then what does it consists of? If existence consists of matter and energy, then what does matter and energy consist of? If one were to analyze the concepts of matter and energy, one will eventually come to the conclusion that matter and energy consist of nothing by asking the question: What does so and so consist of over and over again in an attempt to get at the fundamental constituents of matter and energy? The same can be done for mental phenomena, because, if one were to analyze mental phenomena, one would eventually come to the conclusion that mental phenomena consist of nothing, by asking the question: What does so and so consists of over and over again in order to get at the fundamental constituents of mental phenomena? If existence consists of mental and nonmental phenomena, and both mental and nonmental phenomena consist of nothing, then the only conclusion one can come to is that existence is impossible.

So Zeno of Elea proved that motion is impossible, and using arguments similar to Zeno's arguments, I have proven that existence is impossible. Therefore, both motion and existence are illusions. If illusions exist, then what do they consist of? If one were to analyze illusions, one will come to the conclusion that illusions consist of nothing by using similar arguments to those used above, and, if illusions consist of nothing, then everything is impossible. Therefore, the ultimate truth is that everything is impossible. If everything is impossible, then truth and falsehood are also impossible. The ultimate irony is that, if everything is impossible, then the impossible will also be impossible, and if the impossible is impossible, then some things will be possible, because double negatives can sometimes yield positives. It is only because the impossible is impossible that we can know or perceive anything.

To exist is to achieve the impossible, because, if the impossible is impossible, then the possible will be possible, although the possible is also impossible. That is to say that it is only because the impossible is impossible that some things are possible, but, of course, everything is impossible. In other words, some things are possible, because everything is impossible, and, if everything is impossible, then the impossible will also be impossible, which makes some things possible, because double negatives sometimes yield positives. Therefore, I think that I have proven that everything is impossible, and in doing so, I have also proven why some things are possible, although they are impossible. Impossibilism is the philosophical belief that states that everything is impossible.
